JPSO releases name of suspect arrested in officer involved shooting
A Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office deputy shot and apprehended a suspect in Marrero early Sunday morning.

MARRERO, LA (WVUE) - The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office has released the name of the suspect arrested following an officer involved shooting Sunday morning.

Deputies arrested 24-year-old Janarius Carey of Marrero.

According to Sheriff Joseph Lopinto, deputies responded to a business in the 5000 block of West Bank Expressway in Marrero after receiving multiple reports of gunshots around 4 a.m. One deputy who arrived at the scene heard gunshots coming from inside of the business. As Carey exited the business, he was confronted by the deputy. As Carey fled the scene he turned around and pointed his firearm at the deputy. The deputy, fearing for his safety, fired at the suspect one time striking him in the leg.

It was later learned that Carey allegedly shot the 18-year-old store clerk in the the abdomen before fleeing. Both Carey and the victim were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Once Carey is released from the hospital, he will be booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center for attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault with a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm.
