JPSO: Suspect in Walmart Halloween section arson caught on surveillance

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect wanted in connection with an aggravated arson that occurred on Sept. 19.

Investigators believe the man depicted in the photos intentionally started a fire in the Halloween section of the Walmart store at 4810 Lapalco Blvd. in Marrero.

Deputies said after entering the store at about 8:40 a.m., the suspect aimlessly wandered the aisles for about a half hour. Around 9:10 a.m., they said he started a fire that spread among the various Halloween items on display. After running from the store, the suspect got into what appears to be a gold mid-2000s Pontiac Grand Prix.

The suspect was described as a black male, 5’ 9” to 6’ tall, with a thin build.

Several images of the suspect and suspect vehicle were recovered from the store’s video surveillance. Anyone with informtation is asked to call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
