NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Playing in only his fifth career game, rookie Tre'Quan Smith entered the record books after being on the receiving end of a Drew Brees' touchdown pass. A momentous moment Smith had zero idea occurred.
“I didn’t. I didn’t realize it at all. I dropped it. Some people thought I was going to throw it the stands. I dropped it in the end zone, then jumped in the stands. But if I threw it in the stands, Drew would probably,” Tre’Quan Smith.
Smith wasn’t even the first progression in Drew Brees’s reads, but he caught the record-breaking catch, and it was his first touchdown in the NFL.
“On that particular play, I didn’t expect to get the ball. We ran that same play, and Cam Meredith got the ball that time. This time he threw it to me. I wasn’t expecting it. When I seen it coming to me, I did everything I could to catch it and not drop it,” said Smith.
Smith has a lot of football left in his career, but last night’s catch will stay with him forever.
“Yeah, most definitely, I’m going to tell that all the time. You know who went down in history with Drew Brees? This guy right here,” said Smith.
