NOPD: Man shot after trying to set woman’s house on fire

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A 48-year-old man was shot after trying to set a woman’s house on fire in the Little Woods area of New Orleans East Sunday night (Oct. 14), according to New Orleans police.

Eric Wilson went to the house in the first block of South Oak Ridge Court just before 10 p.m. and tried to set it on fire, according to a preliminary police report. The woman’s father shot Wilson, who was arrested after being treated at the hospital.

Online jail records show Wilson was booked into the Orleans Justice Center jail shortly before 8:30 a.m. Monday on one count each of home invasion, attempted aggravated arson, simple battery, domestic abuse battery, violation of protective order and simple criminal damage to property.. It was not clear if the battery charges were related to Sunday’s incident or a previous one.

It was not immediately known whether or not the woman’s father would be facing any charges related to the shooting.

As of Monday afternoon, bond and attorney information was not available.
