NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Well that was quite a debut for new Pels guard Elfrid Payton. The Marrero native notched a triple-double in his first regular season contest for the Pelicans.

Payton went for 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assist. The guard had no idea he racked up those big numbers until all was said and done.

β€œI did not. I was just playing, trying to play the right way. My teammates were knocking down shots. Cutting when they were suppose to cut. I was trying to pitch in on the boards. Just trying to contribute,” Elfrid Payton told Fox Sports New Orleans.

Payton is taking over for Rajon Rondo, who left the team in free agency for the Lakers. It’s only one game, but it appears AD and Elfrid can be a good pass-score combo in New Orleans.

β€œI still feel like we have a long way to go. I think I missed him a couple of times. So I’m looking forward to getting better with him and the rest of the team,” Payton told Fox Sports New Orleans.
