NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A shooting near a gated apartment building on Orleans Avenue left some neighbors shaken.
New Orleans police say a man wearing a dark-colored hoodie and a silver mask and carrying a semi-automatic pistol shot a man overnight. The victim is believed to have been at The American Company apartments.
A man who lives on the first floor of the complex who goes by the name “Chase” says he called 911 after he heard multiple gunshots through the wall of his apartment. He says he heard the victim crying for help and then saw him lying in the parking lot outside his porch. Police say the victim was shot twice by the suspect, who then fled down Toulouse Street.
Chase says he pays $2,500 a month for rent and $250 a month to park in the gated area, but that security was recently scaled back to nothing.
“Our security was taken away from us. We used to have 24-hour security, then they cut it back to only at night, then they cut it back to only a few days a week, and now we don’t have it at all,” the resident said. “And with an open complex such as this one, with many, many avenues to get into the complex, we need security on the premises.”
Management at American Can Company declined to comment about the incident, but directed FOX 8 to their corporate office for further information.
