Shantel Wagner

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A grand jury in Jefferson Parish grand jury indicted Shantel Parria with second-degree murder in the shooting death of her husband, JPSO deputy Troy Smith, according to court records obtained by Nola.com | The Times-Picayune.

Smith’s death was originally investigated as a suicide, but at a preliminary hearing in August more details revealed what happened that night.

Parria, after calling 911, would be arrested weeks later for second-degree murder.

There were several references made in court that Smith and Parria’s marriage was in trouble. The investigator said surveillance video supports that the two were arguing that night.

Investigators were called to the couple’s home in Waggaman on June 17 Father’s Day night. They found Smith in a bedroom with a single gunshot wound to the head. He died a week later in the hospital.
