5 displaced after fire destroys Uptown apartment complex

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -Five people were displaced after a fire destroyed an Uptown apartment complex, according to the New Orleans Fire Department.

NOFD responded to the fire in the 2400 block of State Street Thursday night.

When firefighters arrived they found a multi-unit residence fully involved with heavy smoke and fire.

A second alarm was called around 1:04 a.m. due to the size of the fire, according to NOFD.

Firefighters believe the fire started in the garage, then spread to the second floor.

All three apartments were occupied at the time of the fire, and everyone escaped unharmed, according to NOFD.

A total of 17 fire trucks responded to the scene. One firefighter was burned after he stepped into a hole inside of a home filled with extremely hot water.

According to NOFD, he was treated for minor burns to his leg and released.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. NOPD, Entergy, The American Red Cross, and New Orleans Emergency Medical Services responded to the incident.
