Sheriff: Man killed in St. Rose shooting
The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a shooting in the Lower Ninth Ward that has left a man injured.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A man was killed in a shooting in St. Rose Saturday afternoon (Jan. 12), according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting was reported just after 4:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Second Street, where a man was found dead in a yard with a gunshot wound, SCPSO said in a news release. One person was taken into custody, SCPSO said.

As of Saturday night, the victim’s identity was not know, but investigators believe he is a Hispanic man in his 50s. Officials have also not released the suspect’s name or alleged involvement in the shooting.

Sheriff Greg Champagne said investigators do not believe there is any threat to the community in connection with the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing, SCPSO said, and anyone with information regarding the fatal shooting should contact detective Jenni Barrette at (985) 783-6807.
