Police make arrest in fatal Christmas Day double shooting
28-year-old Damiya McInnis was arrested by NOPD in connection with a fatal double shooting in Algiers on Chirstmas Day.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a fatal double shooting on Christmas Day in Algiers.

Police say they have arrested 28-year-old Damyia McInnis in connection with a shooting that left Leon Bush dead and a female victim injured.

The shooting happened near the intersection of General Meyer Street and Casimier Street.

According to investigators, police received a call about the shooting around 5:20 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found an adult male and an adult female suffering from gunshot wounds. Bush was pronounced dead at the scene. The female victim was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg.

Detectives later developed McInnis as a suspect and obtained a warrant for charges of second degree murder and attempted second degree murder.

McInnis was arrested Friday at his residence and was later booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.
