NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The sister of St. John Parish Councilwoman Jaclyn Hotard was found shot to death early Wednesday morning.

The St. John Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the 100 block of West 17th in Reserve around 1 a.m. in reference to gunshots heard in the area.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman identified as Rechelle Hotard, 47, unresponsive lying on the ground.

Hotard had sustained gunshot wounds to the body. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by the coroner’s office.

The sheriff’s office has arrested a 15-year old male who lived in Hotard’s neighborhood. His name was not released, but police say he does have a prior juvenile crime record.

Police say the juvenile and Hotard did know each other.

Councilwoman Jaclyn Hotard has not released a statement.

A motive is unknown at this time.
