Covington Police: Man shoots his brother during botched armed robbery

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The Covington Police Department is investigating a Sunday afternoon (Feb. 10) shooting that injured one of the suspects in an armed robbery gone wrong, according to police.

The shooting occurred at 3:20 p.m. in the 300 block of S. Taylor Street, where officers with the Covington Police Department and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office found Demarriay Haynes with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Investigators said Demarriay Haynes and his brother, 21-year-old Marrio Haynes, are accused of trying to rob someone at home on S. Taylor Street. During the robbery, shots were fired at the victim, and Demarriay was struck by a bullet. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and then booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on one count of attempted first-degree murder.

Investigators are currently looking for Marrio Haynes, who is also wanted for attempted first-degree murder. Police said he should be considered armed and dangerous.
