LSU student named queen of Zulu Krewe, Tiger Golden Band to play alongside her in Mardi Gras parade

This is the first time an LSU student was named Zulu queen.

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Zulu Krewe has named their queen. LSU student Kailyn Rainey will be this year’s Mardi Gras queen for the Zulu Krewe.

LSU made the announcement Sunday, saying Rainey will be the first LSU student to reign as queen for the krewe. Rainey is a sophomore majoring in finance. She is 19 years old, the youngest Zulu queen for the krewe in 48 years.

The queen is decided by the krewe’s king. This year, the king is Rainey’s grandfather, George Rainey. The Tiger Golden Band will march alongside the queen for the parade on March 5.
