State Police: Marrero man dies in fiery Elmwood crash

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A 35-year-old Marrero man was killed after he was trapped inside his burning vehicle on Clearview Parkway in Elmwood Sunday morning (Feb. 10), according to Louisiana State Police.

Shortly before 8 a.m., Simon Coker was exiting Earhart Expressway onto Clearview Parkway when he drove his Nisan Titan off the road and onto the median, striking a concrete bridge support, State Police said in a news release. The pickup truck caught fire, trapping Coker inside. He was pronounced dead on the scene, according to police.

As of Sunday night, the crash was still under investigation and police had not yet determined a cause. Investigators did not know if Coker was impaired or wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. A toxicology report will be performed during Coker’s autopsy.
