NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -A 19-year-old was killed in a shooting in Lockport, according to the Lafourche Parish sheriff.
Police say Jyairus Folse, 17, was captured on Monday afternoon.
Sheriff Craig Webre said Alton Adams of Bayou Blue died overnight in the Rita community.
At around 10:25 p.m. on Sunday (Feb. 10) deputies responded to the 100 block of East Fontinelle Street.
Deputies arrived and found Adams was inside his mother’s residence when the shooting occurred. Five other family members were also in the home.
According to the report, one of the rounds penetrated the residence and struck Adams. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Webre.
Family members said when they heard the gunshots, they dropped to the ground.
“When he got shot, he hollered at me, ‘Hold my hand. Don’t let me die,’” Raymond Lambas, the victim’s grandfather, said.
He said the shooting was like a nightmare. Adams and another family member were trying to see where the bullets were coming from. That’s when the bullet struck.
Family members said they performed CPR, but Adams died.
Neighbors said they heard the fatal gunfire.
“My heart goes out to them and I feel sorry for them because that shouldn’t have happened,” Patty Triplett said.
Webre said the investigation is continuing. However, officers believe that the gunman was standing in the street and it was not a drive-by shooting.
Folse is booked with second degree murder and six counts of attempted second degree murder.
