NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -LSU stormed back from an eight-point deficit at halftime on the road against the fifth-ranked Kentucky Wildcats to take a 71-69 lead, before two UK free throws tied the game at 71 with six seconds left.
Skylar Mays took the inbound pass all the way up the court and attempted a lay-up that bounced off the rim, where Kavell Bigby-Williams tapped it in before time expired. Officials reviewed the play to ensure the final touch was before the clock reached zero, but could not review whether or not Bigby-Williams may have interfered with the ball while it was still directly above the rim.
The 19th-ranked Tigers’ comeback was fueled by a 26-16 run coming out of the halftime break. Tremont Waters led the way with 15 points, while Naz Reid, Emmitt Williams, and Mays all reached double-digit scoring.
Will Wade’s team has now won three straight games, all by narrow margins. They sit in sole possession of second place in the SEC with a 10-1 record (20-4 overall), behind Tennessee, who will visit Baton Rouge on Saturday, February 23rd. The Tigers will be back in action Saturday at Georgia.
