NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -State lawmakers are considering a proposal to create a voluntary “do not sell” gun list.

According to a report by our partners NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune, the idea is to prevent people with mental illness from hurting themselves or others.

The bill would allow people to put their names on a do not sell list.

Those on the list could voluntarily remove their names, but it would take at least a week.

A similar law went into effect in Washington on January 1.
