ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA (WVUE) - The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office is partnering with STARC of Louisiana to collect beads this Carnival season.

STARC, a private non-profit organization that aids individuals with developmental disabilities, will have a float that will ride at the end of some St. Tammany Parish parades and allow revelers to throw their unwanted beads back. The collected beads will then be cleaned and repackaged by members of STARC so that they can be sold to back to float riders.

Residents can look for the float at the end of these parades:

February 16 – Krewe of Poseidon, Slidell

February 17 – Krewe of Pearl River Lions, Pearl River

February 22 – Krewe of Eve, Mandeville

February 23 – Krewe of Olympia, Covington

February 24 – Krewe of Dionysus, Slidell

March 1 – Krewe of Selene, Slidell

A caricature of Sheriff Randy Smith has been featured on the front of the float since 2017. This year, the float will also poke fun at NFL referees and show support for the New Orleans Saints.
