KENNER, LA (WVUE) - The Kenner Police Department says a man was killed following a fight outside of a Kenner bar early Saturday morning.
Police received a call about a large fight and a shooting in the 800 block of Daniel Street around 12:30 a.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a male suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators spoke to a witness who says they saw a vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting and stated that the passenger of the vehicle had his arm out the window holding a gun. Police later spotted the vehicle travelling westbound on Airline Highway and performed a traffic stop. Police recovered a handgun and additional evidence that was found inside of the vehicle.
Kenner police say the five occupants inside of the vehicle were all detained and are currently being interviewed about the shooting.
Investigators later learned that two groups were outside of the Enigma Bar in the 1800 block of Airline Drive in Kenner. When one group left the bar, the second group followed them to a car parked in the 800 block of Daniel St. Once there, the two groups began to fight. When gunfire erupted, the two groups dispersed with one group leaving in a red Chevrolet Cobalt. The vehicle later returned and a passenger inside the vehicle fired a single shot striking and killing the victim.
Police are withholding the victim’s name pending family notification.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
