OPSO: Arrested man captured after escaping intake center
According to OPSO, 49-year-old Mark Nicholson escaped the OPSO Processing and Intake Center Saturday morning.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office says a man who was arrested escaped the Intake and Processing Center just after midnight.

According to OPSO, 49-year-old Mark Nicholson, a former DEA agent, was arrested by the New Orleans Police Department for municipal trespassing and an outstanding theft warrant from Jefferson Parish. Nicholson was released on recognizance bond for the trespassing charges but was awaiting disposition from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office for the theft warrant.

OPSO says Nicholson somehow made his way through the sally port area at the intake center undetected and left the facility. He was later recaptured by the OPSO’s Investigative Services Bureau near his home three hours later.

Nicholson was booked on simple escape charges and will be placed on an elevated custody level due to his escape and his former law enforcement experience.

OPSO is investigating the incident and says corrective actions or disciplinary actions will be taken if needed.
