NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - In an absolute nailbiter, Holy Cross captured the Division II state title in boys soccer with a win over district rival Lakeshore.
The contest went 80 minutes with no goals, but in overtime the Tigers Sinjin Mills and the Titans Jacob Bernard scored. Holy Cross outscored Lakeshore on penalty kicks, 3-1. The Tigers own back-to-back state titles in soccer.
“It’s a great accomplishment. To win back-to-back is difficult to do for a program, ours especially because we’re so new at it. Three finals appearances in the last four years, two championships. We’ve kind of exploded onto the soccer scene,” said Holy Cross head coach Matt Millet.
