NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - It may be the offseason but there is plenty to talk about in South Louisiana when it comes to the Saints, Peilcans and LSU Men’s Basketball. They go on to discuss Russell Wilson’s record-breaking contract, Will Wade’s reinstatement as LSU Men’s Basketball coach and the Pelicans hiring David Griffin as Executive VP of Basketball Operations.
Sean Fazende on the precedent set by Russell Wilson’s 4-year, $140m contract:
“Is this the one that tops it out and basically teams start to re-think ‘Okay, have we gone too far with this?' It’s not Russell Wilson, he’s an upper-echelon quarterback but Dak Prescott, when he’s up, he’s not going to get that but he’s at least going to bargain for that.”
Chris Hagan on LSU’s decision to reinstate Will Wade:
“All these basketball moves are getting made; guys are declaring for the draft, coaches are being taken off the market. You’ve now put yourself in a situation where either you fire him and your program is so unpredictable as to what’s going to come next or you go with what you’ve got in a very good head coach. Yes, he’s got some work to do if he’s going to bring guys back or not but at least you know you’ve got a quality head coach. Whether or not he gets investigated by the NCAA down the road, we’ll see.”
Juan Kincaid on the optics of the Pelicans hiring David Griffin:
“Think about it this way - for the second time in ten years, you’re losing your franchise piece and so how are other players on the outside looking in at the Pelicans, or the Hornets, and saying ‘Man, they can’t hold on to one of the best players in the league, what’s going on over there?’ That’s not a good look. That’s why I think it’s important that Gayle Benson has stepped in the way she has and assumed control."
