HOUMA, La. (AP) - Four schools will close as part of a cost-saving plan approved by the Terrebonne Parish School Board. The board voted yesterday to close Greenwood Middle, West Park Elementary, Dularge Elementary and Boudreaux Canal Elementary at the end of this school year.

HAMMOND, La. (AP) - Hammond Mayor Mayson Foster's proposed budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year calls for raising the pay of city employees. But the wage hikes once again will not reflect national cost-of-living index gains.

NEW ROADS, La. (AP) - The New Roads City Council has approved a resolution asking the Pointe Coupee Parish Police Jury to overturn a resolution it recently adopted seeking to raise the amount of taxes New Roads residents pay for street and road improvements. The council's action yesterday came at the request of Mayor Robert Myer.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Police say a 27-year-old Baton Rouge man accused of punching a man during a bar fight who later died of his injuries has surrendered to authorities. A police spokesman says Andres Gonzalez is charged with one count of second-degree murder in the death of 39-year-old Raphael Domino Jr.
