OBERLIN, La. (AP) - A new $8.3 million jail in Allen Parish is expected to be completed in 12 to 14 months. Parish officials broke ground today on the project. Sheriff Doug Hebert tells KPLC that law enforcement officials have pushed for more than a decade for a new jail.

PONCHATOULA, La. (AP) - State police say a 44-year-old Ponchatoula man was killed in a crash on La. Highway 22 in Tangipahoa Parish. Trooper Greg Marchand says Dustin M. Tallo's car ran off the highway round, hit a driveway embankment and flipped over several times.
