HOUSTON (AP) - Halliburton says it has agreed to pay $1.1 billion to settle a substantial portion of plaintiff claims arising from the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The settlement, which is subject to court approval, will be paid into a trust until appeals are resolved over the next two years.
CAMERON, La. (AP) - The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says the annual alligator harvest will start Wednesday at the Rockefeller State Wildlife Refuge in Cameron and Vermilion parishes. The refuge will open the public each day at 10 a.m. during the harvest and will close at sunset.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Police in New Orleans say they have arrested a woman who initially told officers she shot a man who tried to force his way into her apartment. Martynenez Grigsby was booked in connection with the shooting of a 20-year-old man on Monday afternoon at a Poydras Street apartment complex.
RACELAND, La. (AP) - State police say a 26-year-old man died after he was struck Monday night as he walked along the North Service Road in Raceland. The victim was identified as Jace Sevin of Lockport. No charges have been filed in the case but troopers say the accident remains under investigation.
