As the city of New Orleans’s most honored investigative reporter, Lee Zurik joined Fox 8 in November of 2009 and took to the airwaves on May 5, 2010. Lee anchors the 9:00 newscast with Nancy Parker and John Snell, as well as the 10:00 with Kim Holden. Lee also serves as the station’s Chief Investigative Reporter.

Lee’s career at began at the tender age of 15 when he interned at a New Orleans TV station’s Sports Department. This experience and his enthusiasm for sports, took him to Syracuse University where he attended the prestigious Newhouse School of Communications. Following in the footsteps of other Newhouse alumni including Bob Costas, Mike Tirico, and Dick Stockton, Lee began his own career covering sports.

With a well-formulated plan, mapped out with the support of his parents, Lee began a professional journey that eventually carried him back to his hometown. Lee was overjoyed to be covering local sports. Lee grew up with a passion for football, both as a player blocking for the Colts’ Peyton Manning at Newman School and as a fanatic Saints fan. "I didn't miss a home game from 1980 until I left for college in 1992," he recalls. He enthusiastically reported on the highs and lows of the Saints and Hornets as well as LSU and Tulane.

Soon after returning to New Orleans and to the Sports Department where it all began, he was promoted to Managing Sports Editor. And then, in 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit and Lee move to the News Department as a weekend news anchor and reporter. In addition to his responsibilities behind the desk, Lee discovered his own interest in investigative reporting. Following Katrina, he answered many questions for the public and uncovered several stories including poorly constructed floodwalls by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and elected officials who have not paid their property taxes. “I appreciate the opportunity to report on the city that has always been home and strive to serve all New Orleanians in this important moment in history,” says Lee. He was honored to be named the Best Reporter in 2008 by the Press Club of New Orleans.

In 2009, Lee received the prestigious George F. Peabody and Alfred I duPont Awards for his investigation of the New Orleans Affordable Housing (NOAH) program which was created to assist the elderly and underprivileged citizens of New Orleans after Katrina. Through a series of more than 50 reports, Lee uncovered contractor fraud and the mismanagement of federal funds, resulting in the dismantling of NOAH and a Federal investigation. For these reports, Lee also received the Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) Medal, and the Edward R. Murrow Regional Award, Suncoast Emmy Award and was selected as a finalist for the Livingston Award.
Since arriving at FOX 8, Lee also won a National Edward R. Murrow Award for his more than 60 part series into the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad.

Now that he isn’t in Sports, Lee really enjoys the opportunity to kick back and watch a good game without working. He also still loves to play sports himself and keeps in shape by running, skiing and chasing after his daughters Eleonore and Megan with his wife Jenny.

To whom it may concern: I am an ex employee of St John Parish Fire Department, and I’m writing this letter on the behalf of the current firefighters employed there due to what may be some questionable spending of public monies. The area is broken up into four volunteer departments, Laplace, Reserve, Garyville, and West St John, as well as a paid department. During my employment there I noticed several things the parish was spending tax dollars on that may be questionable and should be checked into but the parish will take disciplinarian actions against current employees if they looked into these problems to get proof of such wasteful spending: • $12,000 dollars a year paid to the four volunteer chiefs in the area. • A take home vehicle for each of the four volunteer chiefs to use as they please with their fuel and insurance paid for through the parish; also have no rules and regulations to govern their use. • A take home vehicle for the volunteer assistant chief of Laplace to use as he pleases with his fuel and insurance paid for through the parish; also have no rules and regulations to govern its use. • All the vehicles have GPS tracking in them that will help show how they are being used however they please as a personnel vehicle without having any rules to govern their use. • All volunteers that respond to calls in their respective department receive $10 dollars a call that their name is signed to a sign in sheet; there is no supervision of the signing of names so no one knows if they are actually responding to the station to sign their names or if a fellow firefighter is signing it for them or if they or responding well after the call and filling out a sign in sheet for all the calls that day. They are receiving a reimbursement for being a volunteer firefighter; they also are not 10-99 at the end of the year for monies paid. • Most of the calls these volunteers are getting paid to respond to they never leave the station because the call is handled by the

Contrary to Chief Serpas' assertion that the detail rules and regs were being overhauled, Lieutenant Joe Lorenzo schedules movie details and handles payroll duties for the details while on the clock at the Public Integrity Bureau. He does not perform any duties associated with PIB although he does sign cases that are presented to him. He allows one of his reserve sergeants, Peter Fierman, who is less experienced, to review his investigative caseload while he concentrates on the movie detail business which has proven very lucrative for him and his buddies. He often loses cases and if found, they are more than 60 days late before they reach the desk of the chief, Arlinda Westbrook. Westbrook isn't concerned and only cares about the paycheck she receives so investigators are left to run rampant within the division. Under her watch, no one is held accountable for their actions, and the claim of 'needing more training' is just as excuse to garner public understanding and sympathy. When is someone going to put an end to the corruption in the New Orleans Police Department? Thanks for all you do!

St.charles parish Judge Robert A.Chaisson is corrupt My name is Joshua E. Bacon.I need help to expose the corruption in St.Charles Parish.I have been representing myself pro se in a civil action since Feb.2010.This situation evolved in Ga. when my now ex wife Falyn C. Bacon took my child and refused to return her on Oct 2008. Georgia was the home state of my child since January 2007.Falyn went and filed for divorce and child custody within 8 days of being in La. The Federal PKPA and the Federal UCCJEA and the La. Divorce law was broken.St.Charles Parish aided and abetted a parental kidnapping. On Dec 2,2010 in open court Falyn C. Bacon acknowledged that her former attorney Brenda Birner did not show the Ga.ex parte order to the court(Judge Robert A. Chaisson). On Dec 6 and 7th I filed a Motion to Vacate for Fraud on the courts by an officer of the court and Motion to Challenge Jurisdiction.Fraud on the courts voids all orders and judgements of a court and deprives the judge of jurisdiction. He refuses to acknowledge this law. Also Jurisdiction can be challenged any time in any court even at a Federal Level. After I filed these 2 motions he suddenly went on vacation. He sat on those motions until about 2 days ago.He denied both of my motions. He had refused my right to go to Federal court in a previous motion but granted me the right to go the fifth circuit court of appeals but there was a $2000+ fee for the trancsripts. He knew I filed forma pauperis. He also set a deadline of Dec.28 to pay that.So I went to the Federal courts and filed lawsuits against St. Charles Parish,State,Police and Brenda Birner.I filed a Motion for an order of Protection from Judge Robert A. Chaisson,St Charles Parish police and the DA.Yesterday I got a call from a homicide detective named Brad Walsh. There was an incidence a while back that I believe you was arrested on and your going through a child custody hearing periodically we reopen cases and since your case hasn't been resolved I've been assi

I really like your tenacity, you aren't intimidated by anyone. How about you investigate the corp of engineers idea of putting another canal in StBernard. The property they want to use is owned by the meraux foundation which is run by the sherif and a few well placed individuals. The violet canal is already there why don't they use that. Looks like morewaste and fraud.

Yes the honors are well deserved, Lee, dear. Now I am wondering about that park out in the East that is abandoned and can be used for criminal activities of all kinds. Do some investigating to undestand the true history of the land and ownership of the park, etc. before Katrina. It is in the news again and, dear, it is time to start looking at more important things in the east and throughout the city.

Mr. Lee Zurik, You need to finish your investigation of the Levee Board supervisor that was filmed doing work on company time and claiming overtime. Two Questions: 1) Why was employee allowed to resign and not be fired for his misconduct, this employee is now entitled to unemployment benefits and another civil service job. 2) Why hasn't anybody gone after this employee with payroll fraud, he probably has been claiming 2.5 hrs. of overtime since he was hired, did you look into this?
