Wake up each weekday morning with Shelley Brown, FOX 8’s Morning Call anchor. In January 2012, Shelley moved from the weekend anchor desk to the 5 a.m. show Monday through Friday.

She’s also part of the FOX 8 Morning News Team.  Shelley works closely with the FOX 8 Defenders and the National Council of Jewish Women to solve consumer problems.  She joined FOX 8 in September 2008, the day after Hurricane Gustav made landfall in Louisiana.

Shelley is a native of New Orleans and is back home after working at WTOL-TV in Toledo, OH where she was the weekday 5:30 evening anchor and a general assignment reporter.

Shelley is a graduate of Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans and Louisiana State University.

She is a three-time Edward R. Murrow recipient for "Best Newscast, News 11 at Five," a series of investigative reports, "Kids for Sale," and "Katrina: Back Home," a first-person report on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Like so many, Shelley's entire family lost their homes and survived the storm. She's also won several Associated Press and New Orleans Press Club awards.

Before earning a degree in broadcast journalism from LSU, Shelley worked for Court TV and WNYW-TV FOX 5 in New York City.

During her first on-air job at a small cable TV station in Houma, LA, Shelley reported, produced and anchored the station's 6:30 evening newscast. She also hosted a 30-minute talk show. She then went on to anchor the weekday morning news at KPLC-TV in Lake Charles, LA. She mentored young aspiring journalists there in the station's teen reporter program before arriving in Toledo.

Shelley has covered major stories such as the execution of a longtime death row inmate in Ohio to national stories, including the 2008 presidential primary, interviewing Hillary Clinton.

She's not just a television storyteller. Shelley studied Hawaiian dance growing up, learning to tell stories with swaying, rhythmic movements.

She is an alumna of Delta Zeta Sorority and was Vice President of LSU's Panhellenic Council in charge of overall LSU sorority recruitment.

Shelley is excited to be returning home to New Orleans at a crucial time in the city's history.

Shelley, WELCOME HOME! We & all our family have switched our TV news channel to Channel 8 exclusively -- ever since you returned home to New Orleans! Your story about bring "MaMere & PaPere" back to New Orleans after four years of isolation post-Katrina touched EVERYONE'S HEART. GREAT JOB! Your beautiful smile & compassionate heart resound with your passion & love of New Orleans-- especially when reporting eyewitness accounts of local news. Only natives understand--others don't "get" us!-- how tenacious we are to preserve our culture, community, natural & man-made landmarks & everything New Orleans. You understand & utilize this understanding as your "lens" through which you deliver the "hard" news & the "special interest" stories. And, being a native, you know just what are the BIG, LOCAL stories (like the "coming home" story) that might appear mundane to outsiders. Channel 8 was wise to grab you & bring you back home! You're already a gem: polished & poised. You shine especially when delivering "live" news & speaking extemporaneously. Few know how difficult that is, yet you make it look effortless! That's REAL TALENT! Let's hope that Channel 8 brings you on-camera more & more. Not only are you a professional in delivering news, you communicate through your professional dress & appearance the message that you take the viewers' trust seriously. Viewers see someone who respects her position & her audience enough to dress as the consummate professional you are & in all you do. Here's hoping that Channel 8 holds on to you for a LONG-TERM CONTRACT--so that no one else can grab you. Your star is rising; let's keep it rising HERE! CONGRATULATIONS on your most recent award, another of many you have & have still to receive! You deserve them all. You go, girl! BBB of Slidell since 2006, lived in Chalmette 30 yrs., born in New Orleans
