BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - In the year since the national economic
meltdown began, Louisiana has lost 19,500 non-farm jobs.
That's according to a report issued Friday by the Louisiana
Workforce Commission.
Last month, the loss totaled 900 jobs, on a non-seasonally
adjusted basis. That came with a drop in Louisiana's seasonally
adjusted unemployment rate from 7.8 percent in August to 7.4
percent in September.
From September 2008 to September 2009, the state lost 10,200
manufacturing jobs and 3,400 jobs in the petroleum sector.
Construction gained 2,900 jobs. The service-providing sector, over
the past year, shed 8,800 jobs.
