BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana's unemployment rate fell to 7.4 percent in September from 7.8 percent in August.

That's according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission, which says the state maintained its ranking as having the 18th lowest unemployment rate in the country, on a seasonally adjusted basis.

The national unemployment rate for September was 9.8 percent. The Southern regional jobless rate was 9.3 percent. The federal Bureau of Labor Statistics says Michigan had the highest September unemployment rate with 15.3 percent. South Dakota had the lowest at 4.2 percent.
