THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - Nicholls State University has football
coach Jay Thomas will be released from his duties effective Nov.
27.

The decision to release Thomas, who just finished his fifth year
as the coach, his 12th with the Colonels, was announced on Friday.

Thomas held an overall record of 26-36 as head coach and led the
Colonels to the Southland Conference Championship in 2005.

After earning a 21-21 record through his first four years, the
Colonels have gone 5-15 over the last two seasons and have not had
a winning season in conference play since 2005.

The Colonels only wins in the 2009 campaign came against
Duquense (3-7), a winless Northwestern State (0-10) team and
Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday night to close out the season.

A search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
