Baton Rouge - Gov. Bobby Jindal asked the Environmental Protection Agency and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Tuesday for assistance on chemical testing for houses with severe copper corrosion associated with Chinese drywall.
“This is a serious public health issue. States such as Louisiana and Florida will be most impacted by any potential health hazards. Governor Jindal’s involvement shows how serious this is for our state,” said Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary Alan Levine
Many homeowners have come forward in recent weeks after FOX 8 Anchor Nancy Parker revealed that Chinese-made drywall may have been installed in thousands of homes rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina. Some experts believe the drywall is corrosive to metals and is responsible for ruining millions of dollars worth of property.
