Baton Rouge - The Louisiana Recovery Authority expects to have a plan in place by next month to help people with homes damaged by Chinese drywall.

LRA Executive Director Paul Rainwater wants to the plan to target Road Home grant recipients and other drywall victims.

The decision to include both types of homeowners will likely come from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

“The legislation that passed was for $5 million. We're thinking we can do $50 million,” said Rainwater. “We believe it's that important. The challenge is going to be what we can do with the money. There are some legal issues to work through, so that's what I have my staff working on."

The LRA is working with HUD, the EPA and the Department of Health and Hospitals to figure out what protocol will be, once the money is available.
