Chalmette - The St. Bernard recovery committee is now taking up the issue of Chinese drywall.
The committee, which comprises all St. Bernard United Way agencies, is taking names of victims in an effort to identify the scope of the problem, and the victims' needs.
The committee's chair also happens to be Keith Stone, the brother of Fire Chief Tommy Stone. Keith Stone is also a minister who has begun a fundraising drive to assist his brother, and other tainted drywall victims.
Since Tommy first appeared on FOX 8 two weeks ago, he has appeared on CNN and FOX News, and has become something of the face of the problem.
Stone has metals in his home that have become corroded. His clocks have stopped, and he has measured detectable levels of hydrogen sulfide in his home.
That is one of the chemicals given off in tainted Chinese drywall.
A Houston man sent stone an air purifier after he saw him on network television. Stone believes it's making a difference because the smell of sulphur has diminished.
The state health department says since FOX 8 began investigating Chinese drywall two months ago, over 450 people have called their hotline with complaints.
No word yet on when the Centers for Disease Control, or the EPA will come to investigate.
