New Orleans - U.S. District Court Judge Eldon Fallon held the second Chinese drywall status conference this morning as part of the court’s effort to fast-track such cases through the federal system.

This time, attorneys discussed guidelines for inspecting the affected homes. Attorney Daniel Becnel says the judge set a schedule to have thousands of homes inspected, almost immediately.

"We're going to have this over with really quickly for the people across the country who have been victimized by this Chinese drywall. Most of their houses will be inspected within 60 days,” Becnel said. “In addition to that, most of their cases will be on a docket to be set for trial beginning in 6 months, it’s unheard of."

New Orleans will be the stage where hundreds of drywall lawsuits play out. Fox 8 first broke the story of drywall problems in Louisiana back in March. The next status conference is scheduled for September.

Where is the money coming from to pay mortgages on unlivable homes while young families are forced to beg, borry and steal to support themselves while government argues over what to do next??? These people need help (financial) NOW!!! not 6 mths from now! My daughter, husband and two small children are forced to live in a cramped trailor adjacent to their newly built home while they must sneak in the house to bathe, cook and wash, all the time exposing themselves to these noxious chemicals produced by contaminated CHINESE DRYWALL!!! Where was the EPA DEQ and whatever other agencies who failed to do their jobs? They survived Katrina only to get kicked in the rear by our own inept government!!! DO SOMETHING NOW!!!
