CHEFS for CHEF MATT MURPHY FUNDRAISER- 45 CHEFS, 200 AUCTION ITEMS & 750 TICKETS SOLD!

As of Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 12:00 p.m., 45 chefs committed to the event, 200 auction items have been donated and 750 tickets have been sold!  Only 250 tickets remain because the event is capped at 1,000 patrons. The fundraiser will be held in the Grand Ballroom and now in the Junior Ballroom of The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans for the family of the hotel’s Executive Chef, Matt Murphy on Sunday, June 14, 2009.

Entertainment will be provided by the Joe Krown Trio with Special Guest Walter “Wolfman” Washington, Kermit Ruffins, Jeremy Davenport, Zaza Marjanishvilli, Chip Wilson and traditional bagpipers Terry Cooney and Brendon Gordon.  The will be a live auction as well as an online auction through July 1, 2009 for some of the more exclusive items (link: http://mattmurphy.charitybuzz.com/viewLots.do)

There has been a global outpouring of support for Chef Murphy.  He has battling an invasive group A streptococcus infection after a mere slip and fall accident at home two weeks ago.  The infection led to toxic shock syndrome and DIC (disseminated intravascular coagulation), a rare, life-threatening condition that prevents blood from clotting normally. Information is posted by the family on murphyquads.com under the “updates” section.  Over the last week and a half, over two hundred pints of blood have been donated in Murphy’s name, which is record-setting.

The funds will go towards the chef’s hospital care and childcare to assist Chef Matt Murphy’s wife, Alicia, who is pregnant with their fifth child.  The ticket price for the event is $65 and patrons can call Restaurant Reservations at The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans directly at 504-670-2828.
