Mandeville, LA - Mandeville City Council has picked Edward "Bubby" Lyons as the interim mayor.

Former Mandeville Mayor Eddie Price pleaded guilty Friday to taking expensive golf trips to California paid for by a city engineer and a developer, using campaign funds to pay off personal expenses such as gambling debts and membership to clubs and not paying taxes.

Price pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud and one count of tax evasion in U.S. District Court.

U.S. Attorney Jim Letten hailed Price's plea as another example of the federal government's "zero tolerance" for corruption.

Price, 57, resigned from office on Oct. 9, a year and a half after the FBI began an investigation into his affairs. The federal probe grew out of a scathing state legislative audit report released during the summer of 2008.
