Another former city technology director, Anthony Jones, resigned today as part of an agreement concerning his termination from the Nagin administration.

The deal made with city allows Jones to collect several months of back pay and the have his termination expunged, in exchange for his resignation.

Jones came under fire last year for improperly handling city contracts.  He was also criticized for a misleading claim on his job application that indicated he was a college graduate.

The city attorney's office released this statement on the resignation:

Today, a final resolution was entered into between the City of New Orleans Civil Service Commission and former Chief Technology Officer Anthony Jones, affirming that Jones will not return to City employment. The City of New Orleans suspended then terminated Jones for several infractions, which included: improperly receiving a gratuity from a contractor; improperly changing City contracts; improperly substituting the types of products to be provided under contract - which resulted in an unauthorized price increase per unit; and paying invoices for products for which the City did not originally contract.

Utilizing his rights as a Civil Service employee, Jones appealed this decision to the Civil Service Commission, which heard the appeal today. Considering the risks of litigation and to ensure that he would not return to his former position, the City agreed that 120 days of the original suspension would be classified as "leave without pay" under the condition that Mr. Jones immediately submit his resignation, effective today.
