Like we say in New Oleans "Come ma yall".Since when does a story about a young black man from the lower 9th ward who goes on to graduate from Sanford and Carnige Mellon, and make an sucessful entry to the bussiness world become a reason not to consider him,Troy Henry,a serious canidate to become Mayor of "our" city. I've know Troy for over 32 years,we met when I went to St.Augustine on an athletic scholarship for basketball. It was there that I realized there was a definite class and color system of social acceptance that was alive and well in "our" own race. When I met Troy he had already been at St.Augustine for one year and was pretty well known. Not because his parent owned a drug store in the lower 9th.Not because he was an athlete, smart, fair skinned with good hair and difinitely not because of that pink and blue, poker dot, snap on, bow tie he wore to school everyday until we graduated. Everybody who truly knows the Henrys'knows the most popular Henry is not Troy the mayoral canidate or his brother Ruston the pharmacist. Not his dad Sterling Sr.a pharmacist or Sterling Jr.who works on Capital Hill. But his mother Mrs.Elvira Henry who is most well known and loved. Mrs Elvira is a no nonsense loving mother to everyone. Who never spoiled any of her kids and accepted everyone regardless of their social background. Her home was a perfect blend of notables and plain old regular folks who shared good times and had a genuine concern for one another. This kind of up bringing couple with Troys' educational and business background, in my opinion, makes him at a minium a serious canidate for "our" next mayor. 'SILK'
