Craig G. from Kenner writes: "I have an extensive collection of vinyl LPs. What's the best way to digitize them to MP3 or direct to CD-ROM?"
ANSWERED Oct. 10th - Digitizing vinyl records can be accomplished with a USB turntable and an open source program, called Audacity. Prices vary, but USB turntables can be purchased from online vendors, such as USBTurnables.net and ThinkGeek.com.

Eric P. from New Orleans asks: "I recently installed Microsoft Security Essentials, which just came out of beta and got good reviews. Now, I want to uninstall it, because it slows down my netbook, but the Add/Remove Programs control panel just sits there. It doesn't list the installed software. Help!"
ANSWERED Oct. 10th - I checked the Security Essentials Support Site. Microsoft recommends uninstalling/re-installing Security Essentials by typing appwiz.cpl in Start Menu -> Run with computers running Windows XP or searching for appwiz.cpl, then pressing ENTER with PCs running Windows Vista or Windows 7. This launches the Application Wizard control panel, but not in the usual way. It appears there's a conflict. If all else fails, try using the Uninstaller Tool in CCleaner, a popular freeware utility, to uninstall Microsoft Security Essentials and restore operation of the Add/Remove Programs control panel back to normal.

Regarding USB turntables: Audacity is free but you will pay dearly in the amount of time you invest in learning it. There are software packages designed specifically for digitizing vinyl that start at $30. Some USB turntables are extremely cheap with sound quality to match. At the very least, avoid record players with ceramic cartridges. Good luck! Jeff http://www.knowzy.com/usb-turntable-comparison.htm
