The New Orleans Hornets have agreed to a trade sending Tyson Chandler to the Charlotte Bobcats for Emeka Okafor. The trade comes just days after point guard Chris Paul questioned the Hornets' lack of involvement in off-season transactions.
Okafor became Charlotte's first ever draft pick as he was selected second overall by the Bobcats in the 2004 NBA Draft out of Connecticut. He would go on to win The Rookie of the Year Award.
He has averaged a double-double every season in his five-year career, averaging 14.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks. Okafor's exit leaves swingman Gerald Wallace as the only Bobcat left over from the original 2004-05 roster, when they were an expansion team. Last season, Okafor averaged 13.2 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks, playing in all 82 games.
Chandler, who only played in 45 games last year due to a nagging foot injury. He was traded last year to Oklahoma City, but the trade was rescinded because Chandler failed a physical.
