Salmen product Chris Duhon is coming off his best season as a pro, but it’s what he does in the offseason that is most rewarding.

“I remember UNO camps, Tulane camps, “ Duhon told FOX 8 Sports.  “ And just give the kids an opportunity to have that experience, to have fun, learn the game of basketball and just enjoy themselves.”

The camp culminates Duhon’s charity week that also included a golf tournament in Oak Harbor.  Both community events are organized by his mother, Vivian.

“I wear a few hats with him, but I'm always Mom,” Vivian said. “Sometimes I'm manager, but I'm always Mom, and I'm just really proud of him."
“I get a little bit more lee way, “ Duhon joked.  “I've been with her for 26 years, so I know how to get out of her wrath sometimes.

“We have a great relationship and we just have fun,” Vivian said.
After Katrina, Duhon established his Stand Tall Foundation, as a way to give back to his hometown. He also created Operation 21, a project that refurbishes outdoor basketball courts like the one at Goretti Playground in New Orleans East.
“I know having those basketball courts and those playgrounds when I was young kept me out of trouble.”

Duhon now causes trouble for other teams, playing on one of the most famous courts in the world, the Madison Square Garden in New York.

He joined the Knicks as a free agent last season, setting career highs in points, assists and games started.

“Just having the opportunity to be the starting point guard and have the opportunity to change the organization around is something that I look forward and it’s a challenge, but I think we’re moving in the right direction.”

When his playing days are over, Duhon said he wants to be a coach for kids at this level.

Why?

Because they just love to play basketball.
