Washington, D.C. – In-home assistance for consumers having difficulty making the switch to digital television in New Orleans, St. Bernard Parish and Jefferson is now being provided by the Federal Communications Commission. To take advantage of this service, a consumer who already has a digital-to-analog converter box and an antenna can schedule an FCC in-home visit by calling the FCC’s help line at 1-888-CALLFCC (1-888-225-5322).

In New Orleans and a number of cities across the country, the FCC is working with vendors and volunteer groups to help consumers -- right in their own homes -- set up digital converter boxes, adjust antennas, scan for digital channels and take other basic steps needed to receive a digital signal. The assistance will be provided to individuals who have been unable to set up the equipment on their own or with assistance from the FCC help line.

On June 12, all full-power television stations will cease analog broadcasts and provide service only in digital. Consumers who do not subscribe to pay television services and have an analog television will need a digital-to-analog converter box and antenna in order to continue receiving free, over-the-air television. Populations expected to be most affected by the transition include senior citizens, low-income families, minority communities, non-English speakers, consumers with disabilities and individuals living in rural areas or tribal lands.
