Cleansing your skin

Proper cleansing can help skin look its best, but you don't need to go overboard. For most people, washing the face twice a day with mild soap and water is sufficient. Those with oily or dry skin may want to choose a bar soap or liquid cleanser that's formulated for their skin type. Wet your face and work the cleanser into a lather. You can wash with your hands or a soft washcloth, whichever you prefer. Don't rub too hard or use hot water; this can irritate the skin and if you have acne, it can make the condition worse. Rinse your face well with lukewarm water and gently pat dry. When you don't have access to soap and water, consider a pre-moistened cleansing pad as a substitute. Such pads can also be used as toners after a regular wash by those with oily skin. You may need to vary your routine in the winter, when both the air and your skin tend to be drier. Consider switching to a creamy cleanser or moisturizing bar soap, skipping toner, or using a moisturizer. Even if your skin is normally oily, you may need to apply an oil- free lotion during cold weather.
