A newborn's feet ordinarily tend to toe out slightly. Out-toeing and in-toeing are common conditions in which an infant's foot is turned outward or inward at birth. Under normal circumstance, this will correct itself as the child learns to walk. It's a good idea to ask your parents about these conditions. Many foot problems are hereditary. Did you have either of these conditions when you were born, and if so, did they correct themselves naturally? If the problem wasn't self correcting, or if the infant's feet toe in or out excessively, some therapy might be necessary. Your doctor may recommend an exercise routine that you can perform with the baby. In extreme cases, strapping or a cast may be necessary to coax the bones back into their proper positions.
