St. Rose – St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne calls it a “first.” He has issued a warning about coyotes roaming around the community of St. Rose.

Champagne said his office has received several reports that cats and small dogs have disappeared near the Bar None subdivision. He believes the culprits are coyotes.

“One coyote in particular seems to have little fear of man or beast,” Champagne said in a letter to residents of the parish.

Coyotes have also been spotted near River Rd. and 4th St. in St. Rose. Champagne is asking people with small pets to be on alert if they live in these areas.

The sheriff’s office is working with animal control officers to trap the coyotes. If you should see one in your area, call 985-783-1145 or 985-783-5000.
