Family and friends of people who suffer from Alzheimer’s know how difficult the brain disease can be.
The Alzheimer’s Association says six out of ten Alzheimer’s patients do wander. However, there is a safe return program which can assist in tracking down a loved one that may be lost.
Elena Lacour of the Greater New Orleans Alzheimer’s Association says, “that’s a program of the Alzheimer’s Association that is specific to dementia…it has partnered with the medic alert program. A lot of people are also familiar with the bracelet or the pendant which designates someone with Alzheimer’s. In addition they also receive a unique identification number on the jewelry. It can be placed on whatever piece of jewelry they have and it has that unique identifier and also a 1-800 number.”
As for Alzheimer’s itself, there are medications which can slow the appearance of symptoms, but there is no treatment.
