New Orleans-Bayou Classic weekend is underway with thousands of Southern and Grambling fans already in the city.

Tonight the bands for the two universities will engage in the battle of the bands at the Superdome. Tomorrow the Southern Jaguars and Grambling Tigers will face off in the annual football rivalry which for many fans is all about bragging rights.

Grambling fan Lasunda Gill said, "the bragging rights for the next year that's basically what it is."

It is also a big economic boost for the city. The game and related activities have an estimated $100 million economic impact, according to tourism officials. Mary Beth Romig of the Convention and Visitors Bureau said hotel occupancy is at 90-percent.

Police are working 12 hour shifts in the downtown area through Sunday morning.
