New Orleans - Blaine Kern plans to use funds raised from the Krewe of Boo to build more than a dozen homes in Algiers for New Orleans first responders.
But some residents say what about the people who have called Algiers home for many years?
Students from Dillard university pack the site where the Krewe of Boo's 1st first responder's home is set to be built in Algiers. They've spent their Saturday morning canvassing 1,900 Algiers homes with the organization Americorps about what residents want for the future of an aging Algiers neighborhood.
Residents want to see more homeowners instead of rental units.
Blaine Kern says he plans to tackle the blight by getting rid of the crack homes. He also wants to build parks and a large complex near the riverfront.
Kern says "And I'm determined to turn it around...and we can do it."
The Krewe of Boo's first home is set to be completed in January 2010.
