NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Most violent crime in New Orleans was down through the third quarter of the year — falling 14.36 percent overall compared to the same time a year ago.
A good sign for the city, but political analysts say it's not enough to keep candidates for mayor from hammering the issue in the upcoming race.
Bernie Pinsonat of Southern Media & Opinion Research says the reputation New Orleans has developed as a violent city has grown over the years. He says just a few months of falling statistics is not enough to calm people.
Still, if the trend lasts, Pinsonat says it will eventually mean politicians can concentrate on other issues like creating jobs and helping the city rebuild.
