Before a heavily diverse crowd packed into Lil Dizzy's Restaurant on Esplanade Avenue, businessman John Georges officially announced his candidacy for mayor of New Orleans.
Georges promised to make New Orleans a better city by hiring a police chief that will get results in driving down crime and by bringing new jobs to the community.
Georges said even though he had been advised not to inject race into the campaign, he believes there are racial issues that must be addressed if New Orleans is to become the city it deserves to be. Georges said as mayor he would have," a zero tolerance for corruption."
Georges said he would do whatever necessary to make sure a new teaching hospital is built in New Orleans. Charity Hospital has been shuttered since Hurricane Katrina.
Georges said a recent fundraiser brought in a half million dollars. He said so far, he has not spent any of his own money. During the last gubernatorial campaign, Georges spent millions of his own dollars to wage a campaign that turned out to be unsuccessful."
