HOUMA, La. (AP) — A Houma doctor is accused of illegally obtaining medicine by writing his own prescriptions, feeding a self-admitted addiction to painkillers.
State police say 49-year-old David Caletri, an oncologist, used another doctor's pad and federal registration number to write himself prescriptions for more than a year.
Troopers told The Courier that Caletri turned himself in to police Friday when contacted by officers.
Police say Caletri got the medication through this method at least 21 times between March, 27, 2008, and July 29.
Officers charged him with obtaining drugs with a false prescription.
It wasn't immediately clear if Caletri had an attorney.
