The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office has determined the cause of death for Houston oil executive Douglas Schantz was drowning. However, results from the autopsy reveal that Schantz also hit his forehead as he fell into the river.
Toxicology results, which will tell how much alcohol was in his system at the time of death, will take longer. Coroner's Spokesman John Gagliano says those results are expected in three to four weeks.
Schantz was discovered by authorities Tuesday after he was last seen days earlier leaving a French Quarter bar. Police suspected foul play at first, but later said they believed Schantz fell in the river.
Several surveillance cameras showed Schantz making his way toward the Natchez Riverboat early Friday morning. He was alone in the video. When police discovered his body, he still had all of his belongings.
